In an extraordinary show of solidarity, over 50 vehicles will leave London this week on a mission to aid Ukraine. These vehicles, mostly non-ULEZ compliant and donated through London’s ULEZ scrappage scheme, will be used for evacuating the wounded and delivering essential aid.

A ceremony at the Ukrainian Embassy, supported by Ambassador Valerii Zaluzhnyi boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk, marked the event. The initiative aims to raise awareness of vehicle donation options via the ULEZ scrappage scheme and private contributions, addressing the urgent need for humanitarian and medical aid vehicles.

Since March 2024, the ULEZ scheme has included vehicle donations to Ukraine. British-Ukrainian Aid (BUAid) has facilitated over 300 vehicle donations, with more than 200 already aiding Ukraine on the ground. Ambassador Zaluzhnyi and Trustee Nadiia Pylypchuk emphasized the critical need for more vehicles.

The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership and V-Aid are also playing significant roles in this effort, providing much-needed medical and humanitarian aid. Mike Bowden, Chair and Founder of The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership, highlighted Swindon’s longstanding tradition of helping those in need, calling for continued support. Tony Strutt, Founder and CEO of V-Aid, urged consideration of vehicle donations, stressing their critical role in delivering aid and providing essential transportation in Ukraine.

Oleksandr Usyk highlighted the impact of high-profile support and praised the UK’s ongoing assistance. Deputy Mayor for Transport Seb Dance noted the dual benefits of the scheme: aiding Ukraine and improving London’s air quality. TfL’s Christina Calderato encouraged continued donations.

Ukraine’s ambassador underscored the convoy’s importance: “Each vehicle helps us deliver aid and save lives.” This convoy of hope exemplifies global solidarity and the power of collective efforts in supporting Ukraine during these challenging times.
